The 1857 Wardrobe

The images in this collection are taken from a leatherbound collection of all 12 monthly issues of Godey's Ladies Book from 1857. Because this edition includes all issues for the year, I haven't indicated the months for the individual patterns unless it seemed necessary.

The 1857 monthly editions of the Godey's Ladies Book included a section called the "Practical Dressmaker." This series included pattern diagrams for various clothing and accessory items for women, children and men.

As this site develops, I will include the entire series of pattern diagrams from this series. As more content is added, this exhibit will include sections on Shoes, Gowns, Children and Men's clothing.
